Hello and welcome to Taking the Year! I'm Kayla, a digital nomad who travels around the United States and abroad on a budget.
What is Taking the Year?
Taking the Year is my attempt at building a community to share what I've learned from traveling and to learn more from others experiences. I've had so much fun sharing travel knowledge and getting people excited to take their 9-5 jobs on the road.
I'll let you in on a secret. I stumbled into the nomadic lifestyle. It was never something I thought I was cut out for or truly wanted to do. Don't get me wrong, I've always had a love of travel and that has fueled the way I have lived my life- but there was a lot holding me back.
When I first started out traveling, I felt pretty aimless. Being a nomad was not the intent, and I lord knows I'm not the type to pull that off, right? But after a while, I landed on explanation I felt comfortable with— "I'm taking the year to travel and find a new city to live in."
Over the last several months the concept of “Taking the year” has become a mantra. I’ve decided not to confine myself to a single year or limit my intentions to just finding a place to grow roots. The fear of needing stability has evaporated and I've accepted that maybe (just maybe) I am the type of person who can pull off being a digital nomad.
So instead, I’m…
Taking the year to learn. 📚
Taking the year to explore. 🌟
Taking the year by storm! ⛈️
Throughout my adventures, I've crafted my own methods for navigating this nomadic lifestyle while working a 9-5 job.
I‘ve been traveling as a nomad for over a year now and I wanted to create a space to share what I’ve learned and bring others along for the ride.
I get asked all the time…
✨ How are you traveling so much?
✨ What is it like being a digital nomad?
✨ Where are you heading next?
✨ What’s your advice for XYZ place?
Thus, Taking the Year was born!
I want to hear about your travels, help give some insight from my own experience, and bring together a community of people that understand the power of working remotely while satisfying their wanderlust.
If that sounds like you, then congrats, you’ve made it to the right place.
One Big Takeaway
Something I am constantly pushing and educating people on is HOUSE SITTING! I'll say it time and time again, this has been my #1 tip as far as saving money goes.
I'm using this site to help get others up to speed on how to house sit as well.
Things like my free starter guide- that's right I said FREE! - are a great way to spread the word and start you out on the right foot.
Lots more downloadable content heading your way! Stay posted.
